Eight National 12's attended the open at Yorkshire Dales SC for what was a closely fought battle for the honours.
Race officer Andrew Straton use the full lake with a good force 4 gusting 5 from the west. Mark Simpson/Ben Humphrey from Scaling Dam were early leaders in race 1 until the 1st gybe and swim dropping 4 places as all the fleet were very close behind. Philip David/Caroline Clark, Yorkshire Ouse, took the lead and held on from charging Simpson/Humphrey who recovered to 2nd and Neil McInnes/Katie McInnes, Yeadon SC finished 3rd.
Race 2 saw another close battle with lots of place changing. Simpson/Humphrey seem to have better speed on the beats to pull away from David/Clark and McInnes/McInnes to finish in that order.
With equal points, race 3 was the decider. McInnes/McInnes lead initially until wobbling at the first gybe mark allowing the closely pursuing David/Clark and Simpson/Humphrey through. On the long run Simpson/Humphrey took the lead but with 3 long laps ahead they had no time to relax. However they kept everything in control and went on to win race 3. David/Clark were a close 2nd behind with McInnes/McInnes and Cheetham/Humphrey close behind them in 3rd and 4th respectively.
After the discard it was Mark Simpson and Ben Humphrey at the top of the table.
Mark Simpson thanked all involved as he and all the visitors were very impressed with the new club house and very efficient galley.

With over 50 entries and including 25 visitors from a far away as Weymouth and Hayling Islands, Yorkshire Dales SC put on an open with style. With the winds blowing from the west, a gentle f3, all the water was used with beats over half a mile long. A good long start line had all the boats lined up ready to go for a clean start. Jonathan and Natasha Lister RS800 were early leaders as they completed the 1st lap when the crews trapeeze line snaped giving them an early swim and lunch. Right behind them was Adam Larvin and Becky Wallbank in the 29er who pulled several minutes away from the rest of the fleet by the finish to give them an easy win, (Great sailing). Second went to Chris Pickles and Laura Westell in the RS200 keeping right up with the faster sailors. Judith Massey and Graham Williams finished off the top three in their Merlin Rocket.
Following the best 3 course meal for only a fiver im sure anywhere in the uk at this time of year, the OD set a simpler course for race 2.
Lighter winds meant that the fast asymmetrics couldn't use their full potential as the symmetric boats took full advantage of this on the long down wind leg. Neil Marsden and Graham Nelson cleaned up in thier GP14 for a first place. Massey/Williams improved a position to finish second. But third went to the mirror team of Edward Grayson and Mathew foster. And proving it was no mistake fourth place was Mathew Ludham-Robindon and Callum Escritt also in a Mirror.
The final results below show that Massey/Williams travling from the Hayling island finished first over Marsden/Nelson from Blackpool and Pickles/Westell third for the home club.
